Traveling to Kerlingarfjöll is an edge-of-your-seat adventure. When the paved road disappears and you enter the rocky desolation of the highlands, you might feel as if you’ve left planet Earth.

Accessibility

Located in the central highlands, Highland Base and the Kerlingarfjöll mountain range is at an elevation of 700 meters. In the summer it is accessible by car or bus. During the winter, we can only be reached with a 4×4 super jeep driven by a professional.

Distance

The distance from Reykjavík to Kerlingarfjöll is about 200 kilometers and the drive takes around 3.5 hours in normal summer conditions. Keep in mind that conditions in the Icelandic highlands change swiftly, so always check ahead before setting out.
